Charles had given into the pressures of his sister to 'live a little'for the evening of the school dance. While it wasn't that he wasn't good at faking social niceties and blending into the crowd so much as he was, as always, worried about his schoolwork. He needed to be the best of the best to go to the schools he had in mind, needed to be able to prove himself a dedicated student not just one when things were convenient. Still, little sisters are devilishly persistent and Charles knows if he stays home he'll probably have to deal with the rest of the family and he still wouldn't get as much done as he liked. So, here he was, without a date-- and awkwardly placed bright yellow flower pinned to the pocket of his black tux, subtly nudging people away from him (mentally of course) while trying to keep an eye out for his sister. He had lost sight of her perhaps ten minutes ago when he had stopped to get a cup, the pressure of the students minds attempting to wedge into his skull and give him (and those around him) quite a headache.

As it stood he knew it was foolish to worry, and there was little that could happen to her at a dance, but he still paced the outer rim of the room. Eyes darting through the crowd, looking for that familiar smile or the shine of her blond hair. It couldn't hurt to check in, perhaps then, he could excuse himself to see if the library was unlocked and finish out the rest of the dance in peace.

"Oh, see-- when you tell me not to worry, I take that as a clear sign I ought to start worrying." He teases as he turns them, pulling her along with him across the floor in a playful sort of dance. It's a delight to see her smiling again, well worth abandoning his previous desire to hide in the library till the function was over. A soft kiss to her temple as he pauses in his step, however briefly, "You've always been a troublemaker, young miss. I'm onto you."

Raven wrinkles her nose at the 'young miss' comment and she sticks her tongue out at him...precisely acting the age he's accusing her of. "I'm not a young miss, you're just an old fogey." Her face softens and she leans in until she's nuzzling against his cheek. She quiets to a whisper and her voice catches as she says, "But you're my old fogey." Other people might betray her, but she's always known that she can rely on Charles. He's her one constant.

"Yes, so you've told me." He says with a playful little murmur, his fingers giving a light curl against her. Holding her close for a second longer before he finally pulls back. Nose bumping hers as he offers her a bright grin. "How about we get some ice cream?"

Raven lifts her face and kisses his nose since it's just sticking out there and everything. It's safer than kissing any other part of his anatomy that might be closer. "Absolutely. See, now I just think you're trying to spoil me." But she loves being spoiled by him.

"Don't I always?" Perhaps not, but he does put a bit of effort forward to do so every so often. He's a nice guy, or tries to be for her. He's not perfect, he knows that, but he tries.

"And if you ever wonder why I love you, that is the reason." He does spoil her. He makes her want to be a better person. He makes her want to be a person at all instead of just an amalgam of all of the different people she would have mimicked by now. It could have been so easy to never be her own person.

Impulsively, she hugs him tightly and then leans back and plants a chaste kiss on his lips.

If it hadn't been for him, she would have walked out by now and missed the fun.

He's happy to see her happy, even if the people make him uncomfortable and the place is not his thing. He could settle in with her being happy, he could find comfort in having her close even if the others irritate him. Charles doesn't dislike them, honestly, he just finds the pressure of their minds overwhelming. Still Charles is pleased to be with her, pleased to make her happy, please to make her feel the warmth of comfort as she does for him in his bad evenings-- as she had many times before when he could not cope with them. He will do the same, because it has always been them against the world.

Raven tilts her head and rests her forehead against his. "Sometimes I feel like I don't deserve you," she murmurs. She'd been stood up and he could have been anywhere. Talking to one of the girls who all seemed to like him or even gone. But he'd been here for her just when she needed him. A warm feeling filled her heart and she smiled gently.
